ALLOTMENT SHED BASE
Client required a new base for an 8 x 10 shed. The challenge was to create a level and firm base on a site that sloped and had very soft ground. At the same time the base could not be made too substantive in case future allotment tenants wanted to remove shed and base. The agreed solution was a composite base of 200 mm compacted hardcore, 100 mm concrete floated slab with 150 mm deep edges and a 50 mm paving slab finish. Oh and no power available on site so one tonne of concrete mixed by hand!
SETTING OUT BASE
Shuttering set up & hardcore base laid ready for ballast & cement mix.
PAVING SLAB FINISH
Concrete base poured & paving slabs set
RELOCATED SHED
The resited shed in situ and undergoing refurbishment
CUSTOM SHED RENOVATION
We were privileged to be commissioned to undertake the renovation of a cherished shed, originally built by a close family member. Time and an unruly climbing Clematis had rendered the roof ineffective leading to water ingress and the subsequent failure of the floor and decay to the base of shed.
Using treated timber, repairs were undertaken in a sympathetic way to restore the shed back to its former glory and more importantly give it a new lease of life for many years to come. We also kept its character by leaving the wonky door as found!
EXTERNAL DECAY
Severe decay to Ship Lap panels
DECAYED SOLE PLATE
Removed Ship Lap panels reveals more decay to Sole Plate & Shed frame.
NEW SOLE PLATE
Treated timber braces and ground beam.
NEW SHIP LAP PANELS
Framework repaired & new Ship Lap boards in place. - Looking better!
RESTORED REAR PANEL
Shed panel treated with clear preservative & 2 coats coloured shed paint.
FEATURE SHED FRONT
The restored front face of shed retaining the 'feature' wonky door.
REPAIR RATES
Tasks such as re-felting or applying a new external finish start at just £24 per hour. For more major tasks such as laying a concrete base, custom carpentry etc a £26 per hour charge applies.
REPAIRS TIP
Where possible we always use treated timber for external wooden building repairs. A good coating of decorative wood preservative is also recommended to ensure any repair work is ready for the elements.
